Ear Plugs

I went to have some proper ear plugs made today to protect me from the high levels of noise I’m exposed to as a musician. The ones I’ve been using are rubbish and just make everything sound dull and far away, so I thought it was about time I got some top quality ones. It seems, it’s a pretty good thing to do, the audiologist gave me a hearing test, and, apparently, I’ve lost a lot of my top end hearing already. I don’t know how this has happened because I rarely expose myself to particularly loud volume levels and always wear ear plugs in rehearsals. I think that it might not have helped that I still have a cold which means my ears are a bit blocked and I’m assuming that most of the damage was done when I was 11 and 12 and I played drums a lot without any hearing protection. The only other thing I can think of is that I was born with poor high frequency hearing, but I don’t know how likely that is. Anyway, hopefully it won’t get any worse once I get these ear plugs through, although I’ll have to wait three weeks before they are actually made, they just took impressions today. Unfortunately I have some gigs between now and then, but, in the great scheme of things, I’m sure a couple of gigs won’t make that much difference.

England Through (Just)

Today has been a ridiculous day of sport! First of all England beat Slovenia (although I wasn’t sure that it was going to finish that way for a while). Unfortunately we’ve got Germany in the next round and, even if we beat them, it’s hardly going to be an easy route now the USA edged us out of the top of the table. Argentina are likely quarter final opponents, although I won’t get ahead of myself there as we have to get to that stage first. Also, at Wimbledon there was the match between Isner and Mahut that shattered all records and finished 59-59 in the last set. I don’t know how they kept going for so long. Absolutely remarkable! Isner looked like he was dead on his feet. Anyway, they’ll finish that tomorrow (hopefully) but it’s going to be tough. They can’t afford a lapse at the start as they warm into it. Just brilliant to watch anyway. I think they should move it to Centre Court tomorrow for it’s climax, it’s only fitting.

England

Not looking forward to England’s match tomorrow like I was looking forward to the last one. In fact, I’m quite nervous about this one. Going to watch it with a load of mates and I suspect we’ll all be gutted if we don’t win. Hopefully Joe Cole will start (if Capello remembers he’s actually in the squad) and Heskey will be left back…in the dressing room. Okay, i’s an old an cliched joke, but I couldn’t resist! But, seriously, if Heskey starts the match I might have to slit my wrists!
